July 30 Updates; Defensive Back Battles

The news yesterday was the play at cornerback.  Three players are competing for playing time in 2012; Sam Shields, second round draft pick Casey Hayward and Davon House.  Shields has been struggling, Hayward is making strides but Monday it was House’s turn to impress.  House had two interceptions and a batted pass.  Davon House was a fourth round pick last year who was slowed by injuries in camp last year and might just be making the most of his opportunity this year.  At New Mexico State House set records for interception return yardage (319 yards) so he can be explosive once he get the ball in his hands.

Larry McCarren reported that Brian Bulaga came into camp looking bigger and stronger than a year ago and totally dominated Nick Perry on 1-on-1 pass rush drills.  Good news for an offensive line looking to dominate in 2012.

4th round pick Mike Daniels lined up with the No. 1 dime unit on defense which according to reports, defensive coordinator Dom Capers is planning on using more often this year.  In 1-on-1 pass rush/blocking drills Saturday and Monday he’s overpowered his opponent.

2nd round pick Jerel Worthy was called out for having a bad day and looking rather ordinary struggling to get off blockers and make plays.
